Bridge Demolition

We have heard a lot about old buildings being demolished due to many reasons such as building has been built on an illegal land, building in a very bad condition, building built only half. All these reasons are more than enough to get the building demolished. There are two types of these buildings one is easily demolished while the other needs a few more machines and tools to carry out the demolition work. Apart from these buildings there are a few other constructed structures that may sometimes require a demolition. One of such structure is a bridge. There are a few reasons for a bridge to be demolished. A bridge can also be built on an illegal land, just like a building, and thus require an immediate demolition. The construction work for a bridge can also come on a halt due to same legal or governmental issues. But the most important reason remains that the bridge is in a bad condition and is causing a danger to people commuting over it. Well whatever be the reason, bridge demolition is almost as same as building demolition with a few changes in the execution of the process. Also a few of the tools, machineries and equipments are different. Let us now look into details on bridge demolition.

Bridge Demolition

We all daily cross bridges while travelling within and outside the city. Every city has a few small as well big bridges. A bridge is built over a river or any water body that is usually difficult to cross. Thus a bridge connects the two banks of a river. Generally only a river passes through any city. Today, there are bridges built even on the ocean. Daily thousands of vehicles cross the rivers in the cities by the means of these bridges. Thus it is very important that the bridge should absorb all the shocks and tensions due to various factors. It should stand firmly over the river in any bad condition. There are many natural calamities that can affect a bridge.

One of such natural calamity is an earthquake. During earthquakes bridges deform and may many times not show visible damages externally but get highly damaged internally. With time their strength goes on reducing and smaller cracks grow into bigger cavities and at last the bridge becomes dangerous for the traffic passing over it.
Such bridges that have developed cracks and cannot be repaired in any case needs to be replaced with a new and strong bridge. Thus for this replacement it is necessary to remove the existing structure. This process by which the existing structure is pulled down is known as bridge demolition.
